MOSQUITO BYTES #24, June 30, 2010 The official eNewsletter of the CALGARY MOSQUITO SOCIETY CAN YOU HELP OUT THIS FRIDAY? We will be setting up our information display in the hanger at Nanton on Friday morning as the museum there is hosting the Alberta Pioneer Auto Club with engine runs on the Lanc tentatively scheduled for 10:30 am and 3:00 pm. If you can support our cause, like old cars, Merlin engines noises and talking to people, please bounce back and let me know. Thank you. (Other events at which you can help, listed below). OUR PINS ARE HERE! And they look just like the logo above. They are $5 each and can be obtained from any board member, at our meetings, or at our display booth. If you are out of town and want to buy one (or a dozen), let me know, send me some money and we'll make it happen. In last month's Bytes, I mistakenly credited the design to member Ramona Fodchuk who informed me that it was her friend Murray Lindsay who developed the original design. Big thanks to Murray (and Ramona for asking him)! Thanks also to board member Jack McWilliam for taking the initiative to have these done and for financing them. Universally positive feedback on the great look from any who have seen it so far! (And yes, every member of city council will be getting one). MORE COOL FRIENDS AND POWERFUL SUPPORTERS: In addition to those noted above we also thank and welcome new corporate and community supporters, AERO PROPELLERS OF CALGARY LTD. and of particular interest to wooden airplane lovers, the SOUTHERN ALBERTA WOODWORKERS SOCIETY! Who do you know who might want to stand with us? Let us know. JULY MEETING DATE: For this month only we are going on the THIRD Wednesday of the month, which will make it July 21 at 7 pm at the Phoenix Foundation, #1, 2821 - 3 Ave. N.E. For August we are back to our regularly scheduled second Wednesday, which will make it the 11th. MOVING ALERT! Just got word from a friendly spy that the Mossie was being loaded today for its move to a new, secure, dry, City owned storage facility. No, we don't know where. COME BARBEQUE WITH US: LINKS OF INTEREST: Board member Barry Davidson is hosting our first ever outdoor social event at his property east of Calgary, near Lyalta. JULY 17, 2 pm til 11-ish. UNRELATED BUT OF INTEREST: Board member Stéphane Guevremont is looking for someone in the aviation industry with a PhD or MBA who would be interested in sitting on the committee which will be reviewing his thesis in late August. If that is you, or if you know of anyone, please drop him a line at sguevremont@mtroyal.ca The Canadian Warplane Heritage Lancaster will be in Calgary from August 3 to August 12, at the Art Smith Aero Center, hosted by the Aero Space Museum.
